What is Gochujang 「고추장」?
Gochujang (koh-choo-jahng) is a traditional Korean paste made from fermenting red chile peppers. Its uniquely spicy, savory, and sweet flavor is utilized across many Korean dishes, such as bibimbap, tteokbokki, and even marinated meats!
How spicy is it?
Our gochujang has a mild heat that is evenly balanced with sweet and savory flavors. If you regularly enjoy spicy sauces and would like some extra heat, try our Extra Hot variation!
What can I cook with Gochujang?
Gochujang can be used to cook a wide variety of traditional Korean dishes or added to your favorite meal for a fun fusion twist! Use our gochujang to make bibimbap, tteokbokki, kimchi fried rice, and more! For a more fusion approach, use gochujang for a Korean-themed taco night or make a custom dipping sauce!
Does Gochujang need to be refrigerated? How long does it last?
We recommend refrigerating Hot Mama’s Gochujang upon opening to preserve coloration. Darker coloration is an expected result of the natural fermentation process. It is completely safe to consume and does not affect taste. Once opened, it can last up to two years if properly refrigerated.
Is Hot Mama’s Gochujang vegan? Halal certified?
